Wow, I can't believe it's been a month since my last post. A lot has happened in the mean time. Though I thought most of my kidney trouble was over (for now), it seems quite the contrary is the case. The past weeks I have had severe renal pain attacks every few days. I don't have a stone that is in the way right now, so the doctor doesn't know why I have this. I had an extensive scan of my kidneys last week, but it will be a few more weeks before I hear about the results. All this has made me realise that I need to use my time more wisely to take care of my health and family. Though I truly love to design, it takes up a whole lot of time and I can't afford to put that in right now. I don't know if and when I will come back as a designer yet. It will depend on how things go.

New kit: Country Sunshine and a SALE!

Wow! I have so much going on right now!
First of all I worked into the wee hours of the night to finish up this new kit Country Sunshine:

The reason I wanted to finish it was so I could release it in time for the great sale we have going on at Divine Digital this weekend. Not only can you get all my products for 50% off, this new kit is only $2! But you have to hurry because this sale ends Sunday the 22nd at midnight (EST).

Now I first need to take care of our church magazine that I have to layout by Monday and after that I can get to some more designing!

New Paint It Yourself Alpha

I have a new alpha in my boutique in the Paint It Yourself series. You can color this any way you like to make it match your layout!

And there is much more 'painting' fun on the way. This will be the last alpha for now, but I'm working on a range of element sets that you can all color just the way YOU like. So keep an eye out!

Now exlcusive to Divine Digital

As of now I'm an exclusive designer for Divine Digital. I decided to stop selling at Bits 2 Kits, simply because I feel I cannot give enough time and attention to two sites at the same time. It's with mixed feelings, because the B2K team is really a friendly bunch and I had a lot of fun there. All my designs were already available at Divine and I will also contribute to the team mega kits from now on. Also, I'm starting two new monthly challenges in June: the Hybrid Challenge on the first of the month and the Words We Live By Challenge on 15th. These challenges are one more way of earning points for the Divine Rewards and who knows, there might be some extra prizes every now and then :)

The Hybrid Challenge will focus on a hybrid project every month with a description of the project, ideas, techniques you can apply and so on. This challenge will run for the whole month, to give you enough time to find your materials, make your project and still earn your point for the Divine Rewards.

Words We Live By gives you a little less time to earn your point, since it starts on the 15th of every month. Every month I will give you a single word to prompt your layout. It can be an emotion, something that describes your (or someone else's) personality, a state of mind, etc. You can use more words of course, for your title or journaling, but the word given for the challenge has to stand out from your layout in one way or another :)

New product: Floralty and a SALE!

I have a new product up in my boutique, a kit called Floralty.
I have been working on this for quite a while, with all the hassle around my kidney stone, but finally it's done. (And my kidney stone will soon be done with as well!) It's a mix of royal colors, floral patterns and cardboard. I hope you like it!

As you may or may not know, I have had a large kidney stone stuck in the wrong place since late February. I have had a drain on my kidney since then, that makes sure that I don't have kidney pain and to preserve my kidney function. But that thing has been really annoying! Now on Tuesday I will go to the hospital to FINALLY have the stone removed. My operation will also be on Tuesday and I will probably be in the hospital for a couple of days. So to celebrate the end of this 2,5 month struggle I will put Floralty on sale for the time that I'm in the hospital. So that will be from Tuesday untill whenever I come back home. If I'm REALLY lucky that could already be on Thursday, but it could also be Friday or Saturday, who knows... Now at Divine Digital!

Woohoo! Yesterday I've been set up at Divine Digital! I'm so excited! Royanna is just wonderful. For me it was already daytime, but she was up into the wee hours of the night setting me up, while she is about to go on vacation today.
Of course that means I have to get all my products ready for my boutique. (love that fancy word!) So you can't see my boutique yet (well you could, but it's still empty lol), but I'm working on it. Also need to figure out how to add clickable blinkies to my sidebar here, so you can click right into my stores. So I'm off to work now, but I just had to share this!

I created this kit for an album track workshop at Pien's, so I replaced some of the original elements that were made by the other teammembers. Now it's all my stuff!

More new products!

I'm back with some new products in my store at Bits 2 Kits. I made this cute alpha for a workshop when I was still with Pien and it is really a fun one! You can color it any way you want with your floodfill tool (although I recommend making a selection, expanding it a few pixels and fill the selection on a seperate layer underneath). Of course in PSP it's real easy to use patterns for that too. I don't know about Photoshop, but maybe you can do the same with clipping masks then? Anyway, you can make it to match any layout! You could even turn it into a sticker.

Back to English and two new stores!

So, at Pien's things didn't really work out the way we had wanted it to. Pien's following isn't quite as ready to go digital as we had hoped, so we decided to stop the digital venue at their store. I took it easy for a couple of weeks, not worrying about scrapping or designing much. But now I have found a new home for my designs! I have been accepted into the design team at Bits 2 Kits. And if that wasn't enough, a day later I got word from Divine Digital telling me that they really wanted me on their team as well! I could hardly believe it! Here I was worried if ANYONE would want to take me on as a designer and now I have TWO places where I get to sell my designs!
I'm almost set up at Bits 2 Kits, so my first kit will be in their store very soon. (Divine Digital will take a little longer, I think, more paperwork.) So since I'm no longer selling at a Dutch store, I figured I might as well go back to blogging in English, since that is kind of the main language in DigiScrapLand.

Anyway, the first kit that will hit my store will be Doodlicious. It was my contribution to a 'lil collab I did with Fantacy last year, for people playing in SBB's Page A Day challenge. I added some extra's to make it a full kit again:

OK, bloggen is dus nog steeds niet m'n sterkste kant... Al heb ik wel een goed excuus. Voor de helft van die vijf weken in ieder geval... Nierstenen. Ik heb een aangeboren afwijking waardoor ik het aminozuur cystine niet kan afbreken. Dat wordt dus via mijn nieren afgevoerd, maar het probleem is dat cystine heel slecht oplosbaar is en snel kristaliseert. Met als resultaat dat ze stenen vormen. Nierstenen dus. Door heel veel te drinken en met medicijnen proberen we dat kristaliseren zo veel mogelijk te beperken, maar in de praktijk draag ik altijd wel een paar nierstenen bij me. Meestal geven die niet al te veel problemen, totdat ze te groot worden en de boel blokkeren. En dat is dus nu gebeurd... Er zit een steen van 12 x 18 mm muurvast in de urether. Daardoor kan er geen urine voorbij en begon m'n nier op te zwellen en dat doet dus pijn... op z'n zachtst gezegd. Nou ja, ingewikkeld verhaal, maar ik heb dus een paar dagen in het ziekenhuis gelegen. Daar hebben ze een drain in m'n nier geplaatst zodat de urine afgevoerd kan worden. Een week later in de vergruizer en nu maar afwachten of dat gelukt is en er stukken uit gaan komen. Als er niets uitkomt dan staat me alsnog een operatie te wachten. M'n lichaam is inmiddels aardig gewend aan de drain, dus kan ik weer een beetje m'n gang gaan, maar ik moet het wel rustig aan doen. Zoals je begrijpt, is er dus niet zoveel van gekomen om achter de computer te kruipen. Maar zolang als het goed gaat, kan ik weer een beetje gaan scrappen, ontwerpen en bloggen!

Hybride scrappen

Ik ben gek op scrappen, ook met papier. Het nadeel vind ik alleen vaak dat als ik begin met een pagina, dat ik dan vaak nog drie keer naar de winkel ren voordat ik alles naar m'n zin heb. Toch nog een elementje zus of zo, nog een stukje cardstock vergeten, oeps, een foutje gemaakt en nu heb ik niet meer genoeg van dat papier. Je kent het vast wel. Met het digitaal scrappen, heb je dat probleem niet zo snel. Als je een kit hebt gevonden om mee te scrappen, kun je de papiertjes tot in het oneindige gebruiken, steeds weer opnieuw. Je kan iets nieuws proberen en als het niet lukt, dan heb je geen papier verspild. Mijn favoriete toetsaanslag is dan ook 'Ctrl+Z', Ongedaan maken. Daar komt ook bij dat ik het gewoon leuk vind om met de computer bezig te zijn. En nu heb ik eindelijk een manier om creatief met de computer bezig te zijn. Toch wil ik graag dat het eindresultaat lijkt op 'the real deal'. Als ik een pagina heb afgedrukt, wil ik graag dat het lijkt op wat je met papier zou doen. Ik zie graag veel lagen op m'n layout en ik gebruik dus ook veel schaduwen, waardoor zo'n laag ook echt van de ondergrond lijkt los te komen. Het grootste compliment vind ik het als iemand een album bekijkt en met z'n vingers over de pagina glijdt, omdat hij denkt dat er letterlijk meerdere lagen papier zijn gebruikt. Ik wil dus ook graag digitale embellishments die echt lijken. Het moet niet te digitaal lijken, als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel. Een clipart look als het ware. Of achtergronden die gemaakt zijn door het gereedschap vlakvulling te gebruiken met één enkele kleur. Ik wil kleurverloop, structuur. Denk maar aan de 'effen' papiertjes van Basic Grey. Ik wil eigenlijk het goede van zowel papier als digitaal. Ik wil de look van papier, maar het gemak en hergebruik van digitaal. En het is net zo leuk om die digitale layout nog af te maken met 'echte' embellishments. Nog een borduurrandje erop, een knoopje of een bloemetje erbij, of een lintje. Gewoon met je handen bezig zijn, blijft ook leuk!

Het lijkt erop dat ik niet de enige ben die er zo over denkt. Hybride is het toverwoord op dit moment, lijkt het wel. Papier fabrikanten voegen digitale producten toe aan een nieuwe lijn. Prima (van o.a. de papieren bloemetjes) heeft een webwinkel met forum opgezet, helemaal gericht op hybride. Er zijn papieren kits en 'echte' embellishments te koop, maar ook digitale kits en digitale producten speciaal gericht op hybride projecten. Bijna ieder zelfrespecterend scrapforum in Amerika heeft inmiddels een onderdeel hybride scrappen. Ook bij Pien komt er steeds meer aandacht voor. De eerste digitale kits liggen daar in de winkel en in november was het thema voor het design team ook hybride scrappen. Toch leek dat nog wel wat moeite te kosten. Ik denk dat veel mensen het ook wel moeilijker maken dan het is.

Het idee om met een fotobewerkingsprogramma aan de gang te gaan vinden ze vaak intimiderend. Maar het is ook hybride scrappen als je digitale papiertjes uitprint en ze dan gebruikt om mee te scrappen net als ieder ander stukje papier. De embellishments kun je ook vaak uitprinten en dan uitknippen. Think outside the box. Met een digitale kit hoef je niet meteen volledig digitaal te scrappen. Zie het als materiaal om te doen wat je altijd al deed en laat dan je fantasie gaan om te bedenken wat je er nog meer mee kan doen!

Een nieuwe blog

Daar is ie dan! Ik loop al een tijdje met het idee om met een andere blog te beginnen, nu in het Nederlands. Ik zou heel graag nog eens mijn zelf ontworpen achtergrondjes gebruiken voor m'n blog, maar bij Wordpress ging dat niet. (Alleen tegen betaling, maar ja ik blijf een Zeeuw, hé?) Ik ben er nog niet achter hoe ik dit bij Blogger moet doen, maar ik weet in ieder geval dat het kán.


Toen ik net begon met ontwerpen, dacht ik dat ik m'n publiek toch in Amerika moest zoeken, aangezien digitaal scrappen daar heel populair is en, nou ja, hier niet. Toch lijkt dat nu wel te gaan veranderen. Het afgelopen jaar mocht ik aanschuiven bij het design team van Pien en niet alleen lekker digitaal scrappen, maar ook m'n eerste digitale kits liggen daar nu in de webwinkel. Hopelijk gaan we Nederland steeds meer warm krijgen voor het digitaal en hybride scrappen! Maar dan is het eigenlijk niet meer dan logisch dat ik nu in het Nederlands ga bloggen. Nu stond ik niet echt bekend als een trouwe blogger, maar ik zal toch proberen m'n leven te beteren. Ik wil je vooral op de hoogte houden van m'n nieuwe producten, maar ook van andere leuke dingen op scrapgebied en uit m'n eigen leven.


Ik hoop binnenkort weer wat nieuws in de winkel te hebben, maar eerder deze maand is ook eindelijk de digitale Album Track in de winkel gekomen:

De kit is geïnspireerd op de Album Track workshop die Pien afgelopen najaar organiseerd heeft. Hij kost €15,- maar is dat geld absoluut waard. Niet alleen krijg je alle achtergronden en embellishments in de afbeelding, maar ook nog eens 20 templates! (De templates alleen zijn het geld al waard.) Hiermee heb je dus genoeg om een compleet album te scrappen.

In april heeft Pien weer een nieuwe (dit keer kleinere) album track en ook daar komt een digitale versie van. Dus grijp je naast de gewone workshop omdat hij vol is, dat kun je altijd nog digitaal / hybride aan de slag!
